EditWrx is a division of Digital Odyssey. Founded in 1995, the dowebs.com web design studio is still located in Ukiah, California. The headquarters and production base for software development is located in Pocatello, Idaho under the name WrxWare.
There are dozens of browser-based wysiwyg programs available on the web. Most offer nothing more than access to the MSHTML toolset that is built-in to Microsoft's Explorer browser. We pioneered one of the Web's first open source MSHTML editors in 2000 at unboundpublisher.com. In fact, when we look at the source code for many of today's wysiwyg editors we're gratified to see some of our old code.
That was the idea. By making that code freely available we hoped to jump-start the idea of using MSHTML for web site wysiwyg. Earlier we had pioneered the block type forms editing concept with our 1997 release of WebSitePad Version 2.2, and we still see some of that ancient code being used in some of today's wysiwyg editors!
But making a robust wysiwyg editor for web sites required going beyond Microsoft's limited wysiwyg vision. MSHTML was developed to give HotMail users the same wysiwyg capabilities as Outlook Express's HTML email. Web pages require so much more! Look at the Feature List, none of those features are appropriate for email and MSHTML does not, and can not, play a role in those features. And, you're not going to find those features in most other wysiwyg editors either.
In 2002 ContentEditable Toolbar was designed for our dowebs customers. ContentEditable Toolbar allows a web designer to set up editable areas on pages so the designer's clients can maintain their own websites. In Nov. 2002 we offered ContentEditable Toolbar for sale to other web designers and website owners from http://contenteditable.com. In 2003 EditWrx was developed for designers and website owners who wanted to build user communities.
At the end of 2003 Digital Odyssey was divided into two entities - the original web design studio in Ukiah Ca. and WrxWare - a software development team based in Pocatello Id. Development of EditWrx Version 6 was begun in Jun. 2004. Although EditWrx can be configured to fulfill the niches for our two earlier wysiwyg editors, EditWrx also offers full site building capabilities and robust content management.
Digital Odyssey is, and always has been, a virtual company. In fact, the company's principals have never met face-to-face and staff meetings are held online. We don't just work on the web, it's how we do our business.
